Gringo Star Featured Headliner "Cosmic Groove Allstars" Sat. Dec. 10 Sarasota Lanes Sarasota FL

With Guest: Scone Train (SRQ), Cats in the Basement (SRQ), Elysian Sex Drive (SRQ St. Pete), The Asteroid Shop (Austin)

I first saw Gringo Star at Skippers Smokehouse In 2009 with Cracker. Since the Skippers show I have been a huge fan, last year I saw them again with my friend and Scone Train member Susan Rouwhorst, she had hung out with them at a show and made friends with the band members, she and I then said we should get them to play a show in Sarasota with local SRQ bands, and here we are. I recently friended Nic of Gringo on FaceBook, who had just finishing up a US tour and decided to add some Florida dates and after some serious discussion with Gringo Frontman Nicolas Furgiuele we made the decision to bill our show as the St. Pete Sarasota and Tampa Tour stop for SW Florida, therefore marketing this show in all areas to ensure a wide spread turnout.  The show was originally scheduled at a different location but plans changed as they often do. I had mentioned to Mike Murphy of The Closet Presents about the show, he had bands booked the same night at Sarasota Lanes and we decided to merge our efforts into one big show. This Saturday night Sarasota Music Scene and The Closet Presents will host their very first show together. The line-up was chosen vey carefully, Mike already booked The Asteroid Shop from Austin Tx who had played SXSW 2009, also we both felt that Cats in the Basement was a perfect fit for this show, I then asked Scone Train if they would play, being that Susan played a big part in getting Gringo to play our big music scene. Last but not least Elysian Sex Drive was also chosen to represent a different demographic, ESD who's Drummer Claire Franklin was all of the idea, Claire is the SMS webmaster and controlling force behind all of the mechanical aspects of our website, so they where an obvious shoe-in for this show. WE are very excited about our show and we hope you will be too, please tell all your friends, we promise you wont be sorry!! EM

Cosmic Groove All Stars feat. Gringo Star / Scone Train / Elysian Sex Drive / Cats in the Basement / The Asteroid Shop (8 p.m., Sarasota Lanes, 2250 Fruitville Road. $8, $5 for Atomic Holiday Bazaar vendors)                                 Two of Sarasota’s hardest working music promotion groups, The Closet and Sarasota Music Scene, will join forces for the first time this Saturday to present a truly out-of-this-world line-up at Sarasota Lanes, being dubbed Cosmic Groove All Stars. Atlanta alt-psych-southern rockers Gringo Star will headline the show, rounding out a hefty national tour in support of the band’s second full-length “Count Yer Lucky Stars” released Oct. 25 via Gigantic Music. The Gringos, as they were sometimes known back when serving as the backup band for Nashville singer-songwriter Aria Cavaliere, have garnered praise from Spin Magazine, Paste Magazine, NY Press, Spinner, and recently had their song “Shadow” featured as the opening track on NPR’s Fall Music Preview “All Songs Considered.” Austin, Texas-based ambient alt-rock quartet The Asteroid Shop, regulars at SXSW, will also be in house wrapping up a Southern state tour for their new eponymous debut. As far as locals go, soulful acoustic funk sextet Elysian Sex Drive, surf-pop party band Cats in the Basement, and indie alt-Americana outfit Scone Train will kick the night off right. This event is also the official after-party for this year’s Atomic Holiday Bazaar.
