Composers Needed for Video Projects

I am currently producing two webisode series called You Speak, and Yes, And..., and I am looking for artists that would like to be part of the collaborative process by providing background music. You Speak asks people four questions based on the four aspects of their being - heart, mind, body, and spirit, and is meant to promote greater understanding and community involvement. Yes, And... is a form of improvisational, serial storytelling that explores the growth of character and relational…See More

Five Points Live Sarasota Music Scene Featuring Primavista

When I first heard about the "We Can Be Heroes" David Bowie tribute in honor of hi 65th birthday, I didn't know what it was called, but I really wanted to do the title song. The song Heroes is actually the only Bowie song I know how to play, and I'll have to admit that I first heard it from the Wallflowers in the Godzilla movie. Nevertheless, it's a great song, and I…See More

Is Sarasota Capable of a Vibrant Music Scene?

A few weeks ago, I went to the much ballyhooed Cosmic Groove All Stars show put on by Sarasota Music Scene and The Closet at the Sarasota Lanes bowling alley. Over the last year, as I have gotten more involved in the growing movement of independent musical artists making their mark in the community, I have watched as the bands and solo performers have tried to carve out a niche for themselves within the available venues. Yet as progressive as these artists are in striving to create original…See More

From Cabaret to Christmas

When I was preparing for The Rucksack Cabaret last week, I considered scripting out what I would say in between. My concern was that in addition to the time I would have to spend memorizing, I feel that there is just too much that I want to say and such a wide variety of people that I want to say it to, that scripting might inhibit the flow. So I decided to just go with the flow. As it was, I appreciated being to simply connect with the audience, trying to find out where they were, and how to…See More

The True Sweetness of Pastry Art's Open Mic Night

Every now and then... actually, as often as I decide to become aware of it... I find myself in exactly the right place at exactly the right time. On these occasions, when I slow down and simply savor the abundant beauty and vitality that life has to offer, I get to participate in moments so sublime and enjoyable that all I can truly do is try to share the moment with as many people as possible. Fortunately, due to the technology afforded to me, I am finding more opportunities to do just…See More

Steve McAllister, Lifestyle Guru of Modern Hippie Mag, describes himself as a Renaissance Man. An author, filmmaker, songwriter, and perpetual artistic experimenter, he has recently re-released his second book "The Rucksack Letters" into paperback to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the journey. His latest book, a comical foray into philosophical science fiction, is "How to Survive an Estralarian Mind Meld." His latest artistic project is The Labyrinth of the Unbroken Path. He has also recently started performing his one man show "The Rucksack Cabaret" and hopes to soon produce an album entitled "The Desolation of Angels" in further homage to Jack Kerouac and all those who answer the call to adventure.
